Puppy Love

Meet the new member of the family!
Just kidding! This is Penny. Her humans are going to watch Bella for a week when we are in Florida. I thought it would be a good idea for them to get to know each other so yesterday Penny's mom dropped her off before she headed to school and her dad picked her up after work.

Bella really liked to smell Penny all over. I like how Bella stepped back every now and then and how Penny just froze there.

Penny is nine months old and moved around really quickly around the house so most of the pictures I took of her look like this.
Penny grabbed one of Bella's toys and tried to play a game of keep away. Bella is far too old to keep up with Penny so the game basically consisted of Penny running circles around Bella. Also, I have concluded that Bella is just a strange dog who doesn't know how to walk properly because Penny had no problems on our wood floors.
We took the fun and games outdoors. Finally, Bella could run and keep up.

At one point, Penny actually jumped over Bella.
And then we went indoors and enjoyed the cool air conditioned living room. The girls were tired.
Penny's parents taught her how to fetch--something Bella is incapable of doing. In this video, I captured Bella doing what she does best: scratching and watching.
We did have a little accident. Penny ripped off an ear from one of Bella's toys and was about to tear off the snout until I sewed it back together.
I had to make a screeching sound in order to get this picture.
I was dying from an overdose of cuteness.

What do you think, Penny? Did you have fun today?

It's time to put on some socks!

Fall is officially here, and because there are actually season changes outside of California, it has finally cooled down. For the first time, we are actually thankful to be here in Texas. Let's hope I'm not speaking too soon.

Do I Really Need Another Excuse to Bake?

Our Company Family Readiness Group is having a bake sale next month to raise money. We are going to have it at the bank on post on a pay day and hope that people feel a little more generous.

I made this mock up sign to post as advertisement. The sketches are shaky since Bella decided to nudge my right arm as I was drawing. I know my cookie looks more like an orange...I wish my drawing skills were as good as Jessie's from Cake Spy!

I've collected some new recipes I want to try to make besides my usual triple chocolate brownies.

I can go with a Halloween theme:
Monster Cupcakes
Spider Bites

Web Cookies
Halloween Whoopie Pies

Who doesn't like the combination of chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallows?:
S'mores on a Stick
S'mores Cookies

 Will patriotic cookies sell faster?:
Stars and Stripes Cookies
Red, White and Blue Stars

Maybe we should have some non-chocolate options. Believe it or not, some people don't like chocolate!:
Raspberry Cream Sandwich Cookies
Raspberry Lemon Whoopie Pies

 Are these too fancy?
Chocolate Chip Meringue Cookies
Chocolate Nutella Turnovers

Or should I go classic with a twist?:
Chocolate Chip and Toffee Shortbread Cookies
Red Velvet Cake Balls
Would you go to my bake sale if you could?

A Gift for the BFF

Today is my best friend's 22nd birthday! We have been friends since the sixth grade. We spent many late Friday nights gossiping about boys, our strict Asian parents and bitching about life.

To show you how much I care for her, let me tell you a little story.

One afternoon, many years ago, we were both napping after a particularly grueling day of school. And then the earth began to shake. I screamed at her to get up so that we could hide under a table for protection from falling objects, but she would not wake from her slumber. Just as I was about to jump on top of her to shield the sleeping beauty from imminent danger, the earthquake stopped and all was calm again.

That's dedication, yo!

Broke and dying for something to make with my hands, I made her some "artwork" for her walls. Tiffany is studying to become a veterinarian, and she will be a kick-ass one. I hope that these will someday hang in her own animal clinic.

I grabbed some scrapbook paper with animals on it along with coordinating cardstock, some animal stencils, scissors, pencil and glue.
Just trace, cut, and glue. Simple.

I made them 4 x 6 size. All she has to do is stick them in some white frames.

I attached them onto plain white cardstock by cutting slits for them to slide into and then rounded the corners. Then I tied it all together with baker's twine and stuck it into a birthday card.

Tiffany, I hope this new year brings you joy and good fortune. Now, go party on!

A Good Catch

The Hubby is back in the field for a week. Text from him yesterday morning:

"good morning my love"

Yup, I married a good one.

Random Generosity

I spent about 45 minutes in Petco's natural food section today trying to figure out what to grab for Bella. The sweet potato and venison dog food we were feeding her was not working. I read new reviews and apparently the company changed their formula and is no longer as effective in stopping allergies.

I was armed with two coupons:

I didn't end up using them so I wrote "Have a great day" on them and stuck them on a bag of dog food. I hope it brought a smile to somebody. Who doesn't like to save money?

We received mail from Netflix the other day and they had four different codes for a month free trial.

Please leave a comment if you would like one of the four codes. I would hate to toss them in the trash. I think you would just have to cancel your plan before the month's trial time ends and they won't charge you.

Have a lovely night!

Pack the Bags!

I'll have to remember to study this video when we start packing our bags for Florida.

This video sure would have been helpful when I was trying to pack up everything the night before my big move from California.
Somehow I was convinced that I needed to bring a big jar of Nutella with me to Georgia.

Eye Candy

I just discovered Ming Makes Cupcakes today via Oh, Hello Friend. If I hadn't just eaten 3/4 of a flat apple pie yesterday BY MYSELF I would be all over this.
Cupcakes, brownies, pie, cake, and cookies should count as freebie calories.

Oh No You Didn't!

Flashback to April. Fort Benning, GA. DEERS office to obtain my personal military ID card.

A black woman approaches me and asks if I'm Korean.

I answer that I was born in Taiwan, but grew up in California.

She replies, "All ya'll look the same to me!"

Racist or funny?

Things You Didn't Know About My Ranger Hubby

He likes to be cradled by soft pillows when he sleeps.
This is what he looks like when I try to videotape him singing Justin Bieber's "Baby". I have failed my blog readers, but when I do catch him on film--and I will!--it will be the most epic post.
He likes to stay clean with Toy Story baby wipes while out in the field.
And yet he probably knows how to kill you with just his thumbs. Just joking. Kinda. Maybe. Actually, I have no clue.

Sh*t My Dog Ruined

This window screen and blinds. After she made an escape from the bathroom through this window, she began to break into the house from the backyard through other windows when we left her alone outside.
This bear along with numerous stuffed animals.
Her legs and our bank accounts.
My grandmother's sewing supplies along with a canister of loose tea leaves. This or something similar is what I always came home to after a 10pm-3am shift at the restaurant.
My bedroom carpet along with my night's sleep. Notice the thrown up tea leaves and puddle of urine.
This picture.
Post inspired by Joana's a couple of days ago along with Shit My Pet Ruined blog.
