Bringing in the New Year

P.S. Hubby decided it was smart to toss his lit sparkler in the air. We were scrambling away, similar to the arrow roulette scene from the movie Grown Ups.

A Belated Birthday Post

Hey guys! Guess what?

I actually turned 25 over a month ago, but am finally using this long holiday weekend to post about it. I'm going to try being a better blogger. Really, I am!

My birthday was not terribly exciting and it really just made me homesick. Hubby had to work most of the day so I had a lot of time to think about how far away I am from my family back in California and how much I miss my friends in Texas.

I was more than willing to be spoiled by the Hubby and squeeze extra hugs out of Bella.

We took a long time trying to get our obligatory family portrait with birthday hats. We were able to capture a couple decent shots of the three of us. I can't imagine how hard it will be when we add a baby to the mix in the future.

Hubby gifted me my very first Kate Spade item. Meet Pippa:

I've been looking at Kate Spade purses for the past three years, but never took the plunge. Hubby chose the bag himself without any help and it's perfect. It's such an extravagant gift, but it makes me feel so good carrying it around. Heck, they even treat me better in stores when we go to nice malls. Total "Pretty Woman" effect.

Rules of carrying the bag:
1) Pippa shall never be placed on the floor.
2) Lip gloss, lotions, and gum will be placed in a separate bag and not directly in Pippa's pockets.
3) Pippa will not be used to sneak snacks into the movie theatre.

Hubby made pork, shrimp, and chicken gumbo for dinner and we ended the evening with a store bought fruit tart. Fruit tarts are about ten times tastier than cakes and all that fruit just cancels out all the butter used in the tart shell, right?

I'm excited to see what Year 25 brings for me.

Photo Dump

A collection of pictures from my phone, both old and new.

Bella is always near me when I'm eating in hopes that I'll share some food.

Free Julep box by using code FREEBOX. Really love the consistency of these polishes!
So happy to get my Love with Food freebie with code FBGIFT in the mail.

Attempted to do some gardening. They're all dead now.
Some kids were playing in the dirty rain water behind our backyard.
Hubby is great at grilling. We had grilled food every day for two weeks.
Peony season was far too short this year.

We celebrated our 9-year anniversary in June. Hubby made a homemade card for the occasion.

We took a trip to Charleston for the Fourth of July. It was smoldering hot and humid.

It turns out that Bella is pretty terrified of the little toads we find in our backyard.

I broke out the stand mixer to make some delicious brownie cookies.

Having a gym in our garage has been really convenient.
Bella helps Hubby do some studying.
Bella has trouble deciding who to stay with when one person is upstairs and another is downstairs. She chooses to stay in between at the top of the stairs as a compromise.
She's a fan of accessorizing.

Our bed is basically her bed.

Friday night on the couch as a family.
This cookie cake was on clearance at the local grocery store.
Our new king bed has been so luxurious.
I love sending mail now that we have this adorable return address stamp.

Mothers and Daughters

My sister had the brilliant idea of putting together a photo shoot for our small little family full of women as an early Mother's Day gift.  She hired a friend from college to take these beautiful pictures of us. Thanks, Daniel Kao, for photos we will cherish for a lifetime.

A Brief Visit

Hubby and I were able to visit California for a few days after settling down in North Carolina. We were lucky enough to have a great dog-loving friend housesit for us and keep Bella company while we were away. Our days were reserved for visiting family members and it was too short of a trip.

We didn't have enough time to go to Disneyland, but we did the next best thing and went to Downtown Disney. It was a huge tease. The two of us were especially impressed by the upgraded Lego store and their new displays.

I was especially excited to see my niece, Riley. We were so disappointed because she was absolutely terrified of us and refused to come anywhere near us, even with bacon treats in our hands. After a short walk and feeding her some dinner, she finally trusted us enough to come out from under the table.

Our Saturday afternoon was spent at the ballpark watching The Hubby's little brothers play little league baseball. Little league is no joke, people! We were both really impressed by both the dedication of the kids and their parents. What is it about watching baseball games that allows you to eat Cheetos and drink Slurpies without any guilt?

The Hubby's brother was the star of his team, striking players out and stealing bases.

Bella's brother, Billy, puts Bella's manners to absolute shame. They never have to dog proof the house or chase him when he runs out the door. I actually had to turn the car around yesterday on the way to work because I realized that I forgot to close all the doors in the house before leaving. How ridiculous is that?

Of course I got to spend some time with my side of the family as well. My side of the family had a little photo shoot session on Sunday, which I will share soon.

On our last day in California, we were able to spend more time with Hubby's mom's side of the family. She had some beautiful and delicious cakes made for the gathering and we had more food than we knew what to do with.

P.S. The Hubby went the entire time sporting a patchy beard. I was not a fan.
